British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has taken a strong stance against the United States on both the Greenland and Chagos Treaty issues. During Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons, the lower house of the British legislature (Parliament), he made it clear, "I will not bow down. Britain will not deviate from its policies and values over the future of Greenland in the face of the threat of tariffs."
Starmer said that the United States is threatening to impose tariffs on countries that oppose Washington on the Greenland issue, which is "completely wrong." He reiterated that the UK's position on this issue will remain unchanged.
At the time, he said that the Danish Prime Minister is coming to the UK tomorrow, and a bilateral meeting will be held between the two countries - where the Greenland situation will be important.
Starmer's comments come as US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has accused the UK of "letting down" the US by handing over sovereignty over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.
The growing diplomatic tension between the US, UK and Europe over the Chagos Treaty and Greenland is now at the centre of international politics.
