The Indian Army is already preparing for future wars. This is what Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has made clear. Emphasizing on modern technology, new structures and indigenous weapons and equipment, he said that self-reliance is no longer just a goal, but it is strategically very important for India. He said this while talking to reporters after the Army Day parade in Jaipur on Thursday.
General Dwivedi said that the Indian Army is now moving forward with well-trained soldiers, modern equipment and multi-domain combat capabilities. The use of technology is further enhancing the capabilities of the army. He said that there has been a clear change in the mindset of the army in the last few years. In his words, 'Operation Sindoor' has created a 'new reality'. Through this operation, the army has proven its ability to strike quickly, coordinate and deliver precise strikes. It is a reflection of a mature and confident force, which can protect national interests with moderate but firm and responsible steps.
The Indian Army Chief said that in addition to meeting the current challenges, preparations are also being made for future wars. For that purpose, new structures have been created, which are being trained and equipped according to the future needs. He said that new units like Bhairav Battalion and Shakti Baan Regiment have been formed. This reflects the development of a fast-moving, flexible and mission-oriented army, which is capable of meeting future challenges.
General Dwivedi said that this year's parade saw a beautiful combination of tradition and transformation. The Nepal Army Band symbolizes the strong relationship between the two countries, and the new units highlight the emerging strength of the army.
He said that the Indian Army is always ready to face any kind of attack. The force is fully prepared for future wars as well. The parade reflected that readiness and this readiness will be further strengthened in the future. The army will continue to bring necessary changes in line with the times.
Referring to the display of 'Made in India' equipment, the Indian Army Chief said that the foundation of self-reliance is clearly evident in this parade. The equipment required by the Indian Army for the future will be designed and manufactured in the country. Self-reliance is now not just a goal, it is a strategic imperative. He also said that special importance is being given to resources that can be used in both the military and civilian sectors. This will also play a role in the overall development of the country.
Regarding the Army Day parade in Jaipur, he said, Rajasthan is a land where countless heroes have made history. That is why this place has been chosen. Referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, the Indian Army Chief said that how long a war will last cannot be said in advance. Future conflicts can be of a few days or even a few years.
Stating that technology increases efficiency, but it is not a substitute for manpower, he said that small units are more successful because the new units have more speed and ability to respond quickly. He said that the Bhairav Battalion has been formed to fill the gap in capabilities between the lethal forces and the special forces. New organizations have been created and more changes will come in the future. The battlefield is changing rapidly, so we have to keep pace with that change.
The Army Chief said that it is very important to adapt to the changing situation as the future is uncertain. Whether today's war will last for four days or four years - it can only be known on the battlefield. He stressed on research and development within the country. He commented that the country should have the capacity to manufacture and repair weapons and equipment required for long-term warfare.
In his words, research and development is very important. If India does not emphasize this sector, it will not be possible to wage a long war and achieve complete self-reliance. Keeping this goal in mind, the Indian Army is discussing future plans in coordination with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and academic institutions. Referring to information warfare, the Indian Army Chief said that credibility is very important in this regard.
