Fifteen people were killed in a father-son attack on the Jewish community in Sydney's Bondi Beach, Australia. The Australian media outlet The Sydney Morning Herald has published a sensational account of the moment before the plan for the horrific attack was implemented.
According to the report, the father-son duo of Sajid Akram and Navid Akram, who carried out the shooting at Bondi Beach, hid themselves in a place. Later, they came out at the right time and set off on a killing spree.
Navid, 24, and his father Sajid Akram claimed to their family that they were going fishing in Jervis Bay. But in reality, they were hiding in a small gray brick house in Campsie. The house was rented out occasionally for short periods.
Navid's mother Verena said that when she received a call from her son on Sunday, she thought they were swimming and scuba diving in the sea. "He (Naveed) said, 'We're going to eat now, then we'll go home, it's very hot now,'" Verona told reporters on Monday morning (December 15).
CCTV footage shows Sajid and then Naveed leaving 103 Brighton Avenue, Campsie, at around 5.15pm on Sunday. It is believed that Naveed, dressed in black, put something in the back of the car before getting into the driver's seat. The car drove east for 40 minutes. Less than 90 minutes later, the first shots were heard at Bondi Beach.
Naveed's mother said she could not identify her son from the footage and did not believe her son was involved in any violent or extremist activity. Verona said, "He doesn't carry guns, doesn't go out, doesn't do drugs or drink. Work and exercise were his life."
Naveed lost his job at a brickyard two months ago. The company he worked for went bankrupt. He was looking for a new job. Although he had many friends in school, he was not very social, his mother said. His hobbies were fishing, scuba diving and working out.
Navid's mother is a housewife and takes care of his elderly mother who lives nearby. Navid lived with his parents, 22-year-old sister and 20-year-old brother in a three-room house in Bonnyrigg, Australia. The house was purchased in 2024.
