At least 10 people have been killed in a massive explosion at a munitions factory near the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, officials said. The BBC reported on Thursday (October 23) that a massive explosion occurred at a munitions factory in the city of Kopeysk, located in the foothills of the Ural Mountains, Russia, on Monday night.

At least 10 people were initially reported dead in the accident in the city of Chelyabinsk, about 1,500 kilometers from Moscow. Russian state media Izvestia reported that two explosions occurred at an “enterprise” in the city. However, the cause of the explosions has not yet been confirmed.

Videos posted on social media show a huge explosion and flames shooting into the sky from a moving vehicle. The videos were filmed near the military industrial zone in Kopeysk.

Street lampposts, building layouts and other structures matched Google Street View, which confirmed the location of the video, the BBC said.

Another CCTV footage from about 3km away also captured the moment of the explosion. The footage was recorded at 11:44pm local time, which matches the time of the initial reports of the explosion.
