Disagreements among Trump’s top advisers over Iran war, US President upset

Another US official said that even after several months of fighting, there is no consensus within the administration on the future strategy.

In his words, "We have achieved some strategic success, but without long-term policy direction, we are ultimately at risk of strategic defeat."

Anger at security meeting

The NBC report also claimed that Trump became so angry during a meeting with the national security team last week that he shouted and used obscene language at the officials present.

However, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt rejected the claim, saying, "This is completely false. The president has a capable team that he trusts. Everyone knows that he makes the final decision."

She also said that Trump's tough stance against Iran will remain unchanged if the violation of the memorandum of understanding, the killing of US soldiers and the attack on ships in the Strait of Hormuz continue.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell also said that the Defense Department is always ready to implement the president's orders. At the same time, he claimed that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CENTCOM head Admiral Brad Cooper and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Dan Kaine are in the same position on the Iran issue.

Two opinions in the Trump camp

However, NBC's report said that in reality, Trump's advisers are divided into two camps.

One camp is led by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Their position is that stronger military pressure should be applied to Iran. The report also mentions that this position is supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

On the other hand, another camp led by Vice President J.D. Vance and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Kaine is in favor of a more cautious position. They fear that if the attacks continue without a clear long-term strategy, the pressure on the US arsenal will increase and the conflict will be prolonged.

No sign of stopping the war

During the 2024 election campaign, Trump promised that the United States would not engage in another "endless war." But the conflict, which began after Operation Midnight Hammer was launched at Iran's nuclear facilities, has now dragged on for nearly six months.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that Tehran is desperate to return to talks. But Iran is still carrying out military operations and there is no sign of reaching an agreement.

In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Trump said, "We're going to hit them hard. They're going to pay a big price."

He also complained that Iran suddenly walked away from the talks even though the atmosphere for talks was created, making the path to a diplomatic solution more difficult.
