Trump’s ’Patriot Passport’ has been launched, why is there such a rush to get it?

In view of the huge demand from the general public, the US State Department has announced the expansion of its commemorative 'Patriot Passport'. As a result of the new decision, 250,000 more such passports will be issued across the country.

According to a report by US media outlet CNN on Friday (July 31), this optional passport has been launched as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. US President Donald Trump's signature has been added to the inside cover of the passport just below his picture.

In a statement, the US State Department said, 'Due to the huge demand from the public, we are arranging to provide 250,000 more special commemorative passports.'

How to apply

Receiving this commemorative passport is completely optional and it is not automatically issued. Eligible applicants can apply for the special edition passport by attending anniversary passport events scheduled throughout August and September, or by visiting the Passport Agency in Washington, D.C.

However, those who want a regular U.S. passport can still apply through existing methods—such as online services, mail-in applications, passport collection centers, and U.S. embassies and consulates abroad.

Public Outcry

A U.S. State Department spokesperson said that there has been a “flood” of inquiries about the passport through phone calls, social media, and in-person visits to public events such as the Great American State Fair.

This overwhelming interest has forced officials to expand the program. As a result, more Americans will now have the opportunity to collect the commemorative passport as part of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations.
