An airport in the US state of Florida has been renamed after President Donald Trump. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the bill into law on Thursday (July 9) local time. As a result, the airport, which has been known as 'Palm Beach International Airport' for nearly half a century, has been renamed 'President Donald J. Trump International Airport'.

Trump wrote on his social media account Truth Social about the name change, 'Very soon it will become one of the best and most spectacular airports in the world.'

After the name change, Trump's son Eric landed at the newly named airport with the family's private Boeing 757 aircraft, known as 'Trump Force One'.

He told Fox News, 'It's hard to say anyone is more associated with Palm Beach than Donald Trump. The same applies to the whole of Florida.’

Eric Trump also said that the main road leading out of the airport is already named ‘President Donald J. Trump Boulevard’. According to him, now every passenger coming to Palm Beach will have the code ‘DJT’ on their ticket.

However, the public has seen mixed reactions to the new name of the airport. Corporate pilot Chris Bailey welcomed the name change and said, ‘Trump has done something for which an airport can be named after him.’

On the other hand, doctor John Manov criticized the decision and said, ‘Palm Beach was a good name. A lot of people don’t like Donald Trump. So this decision was not in good taste.’

Government buildings named after Trump are increasing

The long-standing US tradition of not naming government buildings or currency after a living person, especially a sitting president, has recently been seen moving away from it.

On Thursday, officials inaugurated the ‘Donald J. Trump Bridge’ in Tennessee. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said that previously the license plate of Tennessee cars had the words 'Follow Me to Tennessee'. Now those cars will drive over the 'Donald J. Trump Bridge'.

Earlier, Trump's name has also been added to the name of the United States Institute of Peace in Washington. Large portraits of him have also been painted in front of various government buildings.

In addition, visas, healthcare and other government programs have been launched in Trump's name. In the future, there are plans to use his image on US passports and national park passes. The administration has also announced a new class of ships in his name.

The US Treasury Department said that for the first time, Trump's signature will be added to US dollar bills later this year.

Critics claim that this trend of rapidly spreading Trump's name and image in government facilities and programs is similar to the culture of personality worship, which is usually seen in authoritarian regimes.

However, Eric Trump dismissed these criticisms, saying, "Where our family name is, it creates some controversy." When asked about his father's feelings, he said, "He is proud and humbled by this honor."
