US President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative to prevent fraud related to government benefits. He said that Vice President JD Vance has been given the responsibility to lead this matter (the war on fraud).
In a speech given on Wednesday (February 25), Trump complained that cases of government benefit abuse are more common in Democratic-controlled states. He mentioned Minnesota in particular. He also claimed that there are similar problems in California, Massachusetts and Maine.
Trump said that if the administration can identify a large part of these frauds, it will be possible to balance the budget in a short time.
A federal investigation is already underway into allegations of government benefit fraud in Minnesota. In this context, the Trump administration has specifically filed charges against a section of Somali immigrants. It is claimed that information has been found in the investigation that some individuals are involved. However, the administration alleges that government benefit fraud is relatively widespread among the Somali community in Minnesota.
It is worth noting that Minnesota is home to about 80,000 Somali immigrants, making it the largest Somali immigrant population in the United States.
