Argentina is looking for a new Messi, these are the 4 people in discussion

Lionel Messi's Argentina chapter has come to an end. After the departure of this superstar from Rosario, the big question in the football world is now - who will be Messi's successor in Argentina? There are many people being discussed. However, 4 footballers are at the forefront. 

Lionel Messi played, he made others play with great passes. There were very few footballers with such a profile in football history. If Argentina could get someone exactly like him, then the country would be extremely lucky. However, the chances of that happening are slim. Because after Diego Maradona left, Argentina had to wait at least 12 years to get Messi. 

Although there is no one exactly like Messi, there are many players in Argentina with a similar profile. For now, they will have to embark on the mission of becoming Argentina's 'new Messi'.

1. Paulo Dybala - Paulo Dybala has been in the news since Messi's career was in full swing. A left-footed player who plays on the right wing, he likes to cut inside and get in. He made the news even stronger by scoring 2 goals against Lionel Messi's Barcelona to send them away. 

However, even in the golden period of his career, he could not settle down well in Argentina. He played less than 45 minutes in two World Cups combined. He was not in the 2026 World Cup team either. However, the situation has been indicating a change in the last few days. He did not score a goal in 2 matches this season, but he showed that he is not done yet by providing 3 assists against Fiorentina. So coach Lionel Scaloni can trust him.

2. Nico Paz - Nicolás Paz was in the 2026 World Cup squad. He played a lot in the Jordan match. He also scored a goal in the warm-up match just before the World Cup. This young talent is proving his worth wearing the number 10 jersey for Como. Keeping the future in mind, he can be considered as the new Messi.

3. Franco Mastantuono – Franco Mastantuono, who signed for Real Madrid a season ago, could be Argentina's 'new Messi'. Although his form is not in his favour at the moment. He moved to Fiorentina after being released from Real Madrid. If he can regain his form there, he could be given the important responsibility of filling Messi's void. 

4. Claudio Echeverri - This footballer, known as Diabolito, shone in the 2023 U-17 World Cup. After seeing him in the number 10 jersey, the Argentine media said that this boy is the 'new Messi'. He moved to Manchester City. But since then, he has been searching for himself.  He played on loan for two seasons at Bayer Leverkusen and Girona. After that, he returned to Manchester City. For now, he has to earn the trust of City coach Enzo Maresca. It is a bit of a challenge for him to get past that and join the Argentina team. That is why he is behind everyone else on the list of 'new Messis'.  However, he is not over his age. He will turn 21 in January. So the door is not completely closed yet.
