Roger Federer inducted into Tennis Hall of Fame

Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on August 29 in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. Federer, who has won 20 Grand Slam titles, gave an emotional speech at the event, breaking down in tears several times during his speech.

According to Channel NewsAsia, journalist and commentator Mary Carrillo has been inducted into the Hall of Fame with Federer. Federer said the honor is one of the greatest achievements of his life. "Fame was never my goal," he said. "I wanted to dedicate my life to something I loved. And I wanted to be around people who could share that love."

Federer retired in 2022. By then, he had won 103 ATP Tour titles. He had won Wimbledon eight times, the most among men. He also won the Australian Open six times, the US Open five times and the French Open once. He spent a total of 310 weeks at the top of the world rankings.

The 45-year-old thanked his coach, doctors and family. He also spoke about his wife Mirka Federer at the event. He said that Federer is a great person off the court as a husband, father and friend. 

Federer himself has spoken about his long career. He said, "It's been a great privilege to have had the opportunity to play with players from different generations. That list includes Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Roddick, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic." 

Even if he leaves the game, he will remain connected to tennis in a different way. Federer said, "Even if my time as a player is over, I will remain connected to tennis through family, friendship and future plans.
