Mexico has taken an innovative initiative to strengthen security ahead of the 2026 Football World Cup. The country's police will use robot dogs to combat crime. The relevant authorities announced this information on Monday.

These robots, which walk on four legs, will be able to enter risky areas. They will go there and send live video to the security forces. The police will first see the situation and then take necessary measures. The 2026 World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19. Mexico is jointly hosting the event with the United States and Canada.

The Guadalupe City Council, an area around the city of Monterrey, has purchased these robots for 2.5 million pesos. The value of which is about 15 million taka in Bangladeshi taka. There is a World Cup venue in the Guadalupe area.

A video released by the local government shows a robot dog walking through an abandoned building. It even breaks the stairs. Although it has some difficulty, it is able to climb up. The video also shows the robot moving forward and sending live images directly. Police are slowly following behind.

At one point, the robot dog encounters an armed man. Then, through a loudspeaker, it orders him to put down his weapon. Guadalupe Mayor Hector Garcia said, “The purpose of this robot dog is to assist the police in initial operations and ensure the physical safety of officers.” He added, “They will be used in any type of conflict situation.”

Four matches will be held at the BBVA Stadium in Monterrey during the World Cup. The stadium will be named Estadio Monterrey during the tournament.
