Prominent entrepreneur, social worker and policy analyst M. G. R. Nasir Mazumder CIP has been elected president of Bangladesh Flying Academy and General Aviation Limited, one of the country’s oldest and most historic aviation training institutions.

An 11-member executive committee was formed under his leadership at the institution’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), held on August 29, 2026. The names and designations of the newly formed committee members were officially announced in a letter issued by the institution on September 30.

Established in 1948, Bangladesh Flying Academy and General Aviation Limited has a proud history spanning 78 years. Previously known as the East Pakistan Flying Club and later as the Bangladesh Flying Club, the institution has historically been associated with the development of civil aviation and pilot training in the country.

Three vice presidents have been elected to the new executive committee. Engineer Nasiruddin Ahmed will oversee Operations, Academics and Engineering; Captain Abu Safa will be responsible for Administration and Finance; and Razi Haider Rizvi will look after Recreation and Facilities.

Captain Abdullah has been elected secretary general, while Captain Zakaria has been elected joint secretary.

The five executive members are Captain Selimur Rahman, Captain Mir Qamar Siddique, Captain Ether Fariel, Captain Rafiqul Rahman and Captain Fedia.

The newly elected president, M. G. R. Nasir Mazumder, is a well-known entrepreneur and business leader in Bangladesh. He is the founder and managing director of Century Group, which operates businesses across several sectors, including real estate, ready-made garments, agriculture, tourism and hospitality. Alongside his business activities, he has long been involved in leading various social, professional and business organisations.

In recognition of his significant contributions to business and commerce, he received the Commercially Important Person (CIP) status from the Government of Bangladesh in 2021. He also secured first place in the Prime Minister’s National Tree Plantation Award 2018 for his outstanding contributions to environmental conservation and greening initiatives.

He previously served as a director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), vice president of the Gulshan Society and president of the Bangladesh Real Estate Club.

With Bangladesh’s aviation industry continuing to grow, the institution has significant potential to help meet the rising demand for skilled pilots, expand modern training facilities and unlock new opportunities in the general aviation sector.

Under the new leadership, expectations are high that the academy will undertake initiatives to improve infrastructure, introduce technology-driven pilot training, develop internationally recognised training systems and strengthen its institutional capacity.

The new committee is also expected to play an important role in expanding opportunities for young people to pursue careers as pilots, strengthening international cooperation and contributing to a safer and more efficient aviation system.

With nearly eight decades of heritage behind it, the institution begins a new chapter under its new leadership, with the aspiration of becoming a modern, dynamic and internationally recognised aviation training institution.
