An iconic New York City deli that closed a decade ago could be making a return.Carnegie Deli shared a video on social media showing signage going up at an undisclosed location, along with the caption: "The sign is up. The secret is out. Carnegie Deli is coming soon to Midtown Manhattan."
It was not immediately clear whether it would be a permanent return for the deli or temporary pop-up. The business also did not share when the doors might open once again.
The deli, famous for its overstuffed pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, previously returned as a week-long pop-up in SoHo in Dec. 2018, as a promotion the show "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," which was set in the 1950s.
The longtime staple located on Seventh Avenue between 54th and 55th streets closed in 2016 after almost 80 years in business. It originally opened in 1937, drawing its name from Carnegie Hall just a block north.
The restaurant got a star turn in Woody Allen's 1984 film "Broadway Danny Rose" and remained a stop until the end for out-of-towners looking for the classic New York deli experience. It had been featured on a slew of TV shows over the years, including "Law & Order" and "Seinfeld."
