Police have recovered six bodies from the burnt-out Bhatbhateni superstore in Kathmandu's Chuchepati area.
Police on Sunday (September 14) recovered six bodies from the burnt-out Bhatbhateni superstore in Kathmandu's Chuchepati area. The incident came days after violent protests by the Gen-Z movement across the country. Police said it was impossible to identify the bodies based on their facial features. Therefore, DNA tests will be conducted to determine their exact identities. Authorities are yet to confirm whether the deceased were protesters, superstore workers or looters.
On September 10, the superstore was set on fire in a nationwide arson and vandalism incident following the Gen-Z movement. Smoke was rising from the Chuchepati branch when the bodies were recovered. Police suspect that the violence could have led to the bodies being found at other Bhatbhateni outlets. The Himalayan Times reported.
During the protests, 21 outlets in Bhatvateni were vandalised and looted, with 12 of them set on fire. Meanwhile, two seriously injured protesters - who had been shot in the head - died on ventilator support at Bir Hospital between Friday and Saturday night. With these new deaths, the death toll in the Gen-Z movement has risen to 58, including 21 protesters.
