Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged allies to stop buying Russian oil. He made the call on social media X.
Zelensky wrote, “I call on all partners — Europe, the United States, the G7, the G20 — to stop looking for excuses not to impose sanctions.”
He added, “It is necessary to reduce the use of Russian oil, and this will certainly reduce Russia’s ability to wage war. We have heard the position of the United States, and those who still import from Russia should listen to it too.”
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that if all NATO member countries stop buying oil from Russia and take similar steps, he is ready to impose major sanctions on Moscow.
On his social media platform Truth Social, he wrote, “President Donald J. Trump's letter to all NATO countries and the world: I am ready to impose major sanctions on Russia when all NATO countries agree to it and start doing the same and when all NATO countries completely stop buying oil from Russia.
He wrote that NATO's commitment against Moscow is "far less than 100 percent." He also described as "surprising" that "some" members continue to buy Russian oil.
Trump proposed that NATO as a group impose 50 to 100 percent tariffs on China.
He claimed that China has strong control, even influence, over Russia, and that these strong tariffs would break that control.
He also wrote that this is not Trump's war (it would never have started if I were president!), this is Biden and Zelensky's war. I am only here to stop it and help save thousands of Russian and Ukrainian lives. ”
