Amid ongoing tensions with the Houthi armed group in Yemen, a loud explosion has been heard in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. In light of the situation, authorities have issued an emergency alert to ensure the safety of the public across the city.
It is reported that on Tuesday (October 20), Houthi rebels from Yemen launched a ballistic missile targeting Riyadh. However, Saudi Arabia successfully intercepted and destroyed the missile in mid-air before it could strike. Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led military coalition, confirmed the incident on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Prior to this, the Civil Defense Department in Riyadh sent advance warnings to citizens' mobile phones, urging everyone to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines. While local residents—including a journalist from the news agency AFP—reported hearing a loud blast, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
