Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Attack on Russia with Over 1,000 Drones

Defying stern warnings from U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukraine has carried out one of the largest drone attacks of the year, targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure. The operation, launched by Ukrainian forces late Saturday night, struck a key oil terminal in St. Petersburg.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that it had shot down 1,015 Ukrainian drones across various regions of the country. Despite this, the attack ignited a fire at the major oil terminal in St. Petersburg. Additionally, a logistics center and a data center belonging to a social media platform sustained damage. According to local authorities, at least one person was killed and five others were injured in the drone strikes.
Growing Tensions Between Trump and Zelenskyy
This incident has further strained the relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump recently criticized Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries, claiming that both nations had reached an agreement to refrain from targeting each other’s energy sectors. However, neither Kyiv nor Moscow has acknowledged the existence of any such agreement.
Zelenskyy stated that even after these alleged discussions, Russia has launched at least 76 attacks on Ukraine’s energy and gas infrastructure. Consequently, Ukraine has begun to retaliate.
In an interview with the American news outlet NBC, Zelenskyy argued that supporting Russia would be a "historic mistake" for the United States. Regarding Trump’s recent decision to lift certain economic sanctions against Russia, Zelenskyy warned that such a move would only embolden Russia’s war and aggression. Despite pressure from the U.S. and various obstacles—including challenges in obtaining intelligence—Ukraine has signaled its clear intent to continue using drone strikes as a means to ensure its own survival.
