A new twist has emerged in the attempted attack on Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff. According to information provided to the Indian news outlet NDTV, Tiger Shroff was not the intended target of the assailants; they had arrived in Mumbai with the objective of killing a different influential individual.
Citing sources, NDTV reported that three individuals—22-year-old Hrithik (alias Roshan) from Bihar, and 18-year-olds Rehan and Phool Singh from Haryana—fired several rounds at Tiger Shroff’s vehicle in the Juhu area of Mumbai on Sunday evening. The attack took place while the actor was returning by car after playing a football match.
Sources revealed that during interrogation on Tuesday, the three suspects disclosed that they had initially come to Mumbai with a plan to assassinate another prominent figure. After monitoring the areas frequented by that individual, they realized it would not be possible to reach him. Later, upon viewing various video reels posted by fans, they discovered that Tiger Shroff did not have police security. Consequently, they shifted their focus to the actor.
According to the sources, the assailants monitored the Instagram accounts of both Tiger Shroff and his fans, gathering information about the actor’s movements.
One source stated that, during questioning, the attackers admitted their intention was to incite panic within Bollywood by killing Tiger Shroff.
Seven shots were fired at the vehicle in which Tiger Shroff was traveling. Although the attackers intended to fire more rounds, a malfunction in one of the firearms prevented them from doing so. Both the actor and his driver sustained injuries, but they managed to drive away from the scene.
"Attempts were made to reason with him"
A few hours after the shooting, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack. The gang alleged that Tiger Shroff had been instructed to sever his ties with Salman Khan, but he failed to comply. In an audio clip released following the attack, an individual identifying himself as a gang member named Anil Pandit is heard saying, "I am Anil Pandit. I am like a younger brother to Lawrence Bishnoi. We take responsibility for what happened to Tiger Shroff today."
The individual further claimed that attempts had been made to "make Tiger Shroff understand," but that he had failed to grasp their message.
In the same audio clip, Pandit is heard adding, "Anyone in the entire film industry who works without coordinating with us, or who works with Salman Khan, will be killed. This is the first and final warning."
However, these statements are presented as claims made by the gang itself.
According to sources, the attackers were paid an advance of 50,000 rupees. They were promised additional funds and employment abroad upon the successful completion of the attack. After the shooting, they informed their handlers that the operation had been carried out.
Following the incident, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Tiger Shroff’s residence on Monday. He assured that the government would take action to put an end to such "hooliganism."
Shinde stated, "No one’s 'dadagiri' (intimidation/thuggery) will be tolerated in Mumbai. This is a serious incident. His driver has been injured. The act is condemnable."
