Negotiations for  ceasefire have been going on for months, brokered by the US, Qatar and Egypt. But Israeli officials have repeatedly rejected it or have not responded.

Hamas recently accepted an earlier proposal by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The proposal was supposed to release some Israeli hostages held in Gaza.

But later Israel and the US backed down. Netanyahu then stipulated that all hostages must be released and Hamas must surrender completely. Now Trump is claiming that his new proposal could have a different and positive result.

"We're trying to find a good solution... you'll hear it very soon," Trump told reporters in Washington on Sunday evening. "We want to end the war, we want to bring the hostages back."

Now let's see what Trump's proposal contains, and whether it can actually stop Israel's massacre in Gaza.

Trump's current proposal calls for the release of all Israeli hostages from the start. In exchange, Israel will release an unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners. Then, only negotiations will continue, but the war will not stop.

What's in the proposal
Very little information has been released about the agreement. However, Israeli media say that it is similar to an earlier plan by US special envoy Steve Witkoff, but with some important differences.

Witkoff's proposal called for the release of half of the Israeli hostages. After that, a 60-day ceasefire will continue and talks will begin to end the war permanently. Israel accepted the offer at the time, but when Hamas later agreed, Netanyahu changed the terms. He said that a partial deal would not work, all hostages must be released and Hamas must be destroyed.

Trump's current offer calls for the release of all Israeli hostages from the beginning. In exchange, Israel will release an unknown number of Palestinian prisoners. Then only negotiations will continue, but the war will not stop.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz says that this is essentially a new version of Witkoff's plan - negotiations to end the war after the hostages and prisoner exchange.

The main difference is that the war will not stop immediately even after all Israeli hostages are released. This will leave the country with the opportunity to continue its attacks. Their declared goal is to completely destroy Hamas. This goal is difficult to measure and the Palestinians believe that behind it, an attempt is being made to destroy the entire Gaza Strip.

Hamas said that it had received the US offer. In a statement, they said, “We welcome any initiative that will help stop the aggression against our people.”

Hamas has previously made its position clear—Israeli prisoners held in Gaza will be released, but in return, Israel must ensure that it stops the attacks and withdraws its troops from Gaza.

“We are ready to immediately enter into negotiations,” the Hamas statement, obtained by Drop Sight News, said. “This will include a clear declaration of a ceasefire in exchange for the release of all prisoners, a complete withdrawal of troops from Gaza, and the formation of a Gaza management committee with independent Palestinian representatives.”

Hamas leader Bassem Naim wrote on the social media Telegram, “It is clear that the primary goal (of the new proposal) is to reject the proposal, not to reach an agreement that will help stop the war.”

At a press conference on Monday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said they had accepted the proposal. He claimed that Israel was willing to stop the war; If all hostages are released and Hamas surrenders its weapons.

But Hamas has previously said it will only lay down its weapons if Israel withdraws from Gaza and agrees to the creation of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital.

While Israel has publicly supported Trump's proposal, analysts expect it to later claim that it agreed but Hamas did not. Netanyahu has used this tactic before—first agreeing and then adding unacceptable conditions to allow for war.

Yesterday, Israel's defense minister warned that "a great storm" would hit Gaza and destroy Hamas. His warning was accompanied by the demolition of high-rise buildings in Gaza City. Netanyahu also warned Gaza City residents that a ground offensive was about to begin.

Meanwhile, Israeli leaders continue to threaten Gaza. Yesterday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that a “strong storm” would hit Gaza and Hamas would be destroyed. With his warning, high-rise buildings in Gaza City were being demolished.

That same day, Netanyahu warned the residents of Gaza City, “Get out of here.” He said that a ground operation was about to begin in the city. Trump is confident. He said, “We will bring everyone (the hostages) back.” On August 25, he also said that the “final end” of the war would be within three weeks. However, analysts are skeptical. As before, the proposal may fail this time too, mainly because of Netanyahu’s reluctance to stop the war.

It is clear that the primary goal (of the new proposal) is to get the proposal rejected, not to reach an agreement, which would end the war.
