The United States has taken a tougher step against Iran

After months of naval blockade of Iran, the United States is moving toward a broader blockade. Washington has taken new steps to block the movement of arms and sanctioned goods through the country's land borders and the Caspian Sea.
The US military has announced the formation of a special group called 'Task Force Iron Gate' to this end, Reuters reported. Through this, the US wants to narrow Iran's access to military equipment and technology, as well as disrupt the country's financial flow.
The US military said on Saturday (November 7) that the task force will work to block the flow of advanced Iranian weapons, dual-use technologies and other sanctioned goods. At the same time, one of the group's goals is to stop the flow of money that Washington considers illicit.
According to a Reuters report, Task Force Iron Gate will be headquartered in Tampa, Florida. The group will coordinate its activities with other US government agencies.
This initiative is very important for Iran due to its geographical location. The country shares land borders with seven countries. Iraq, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan to the west and north, and Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to the east. In total, Iran's borders with these countries are about 5,900 kilometers long.
In addition, Iran has a coastline of about 750 kilometers along the Caspian Sea to the north. As a result, the land border and the routes for transporting goods and technology through the Caspian Sea may also come under the scope of the new US initiative.
The US has previously imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports to pressure the country's seaborne trade. Now, by targeting land routes and the Caspian Sea, US pressure on Tehran is set to expand further.
