Trump dismissed Netanyahu’s objections about giving F-35 to Turkey

US President Donald Trump has dismissed Israel's objections to Turkey over the potential sale of F-35 warplanes and said that no foreign leader can decide what defense equipment the US will sell to any country.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump dismissed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's objections. Referring to Turkey as an "extraordinary ally" of the United States, he said that Ankara has played a good role in various regional issues, especially regarding Syria.

Trump said Türkiye may not be a big supporter of Israel or Netanyahu, but the US-Turkey relationship is still strong. He indicated that the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey may be reconsidered.

Trump said during the NATO summit in Ankara that he would definitely consider re-entering Turkey into the F-35 program.

Note that in 2019, the United States expelled Turkey from the F-35 program due to the purchase of the Russian-made S-400 missile defense system. Washington claimed that the S-400 system could pose a security risk to the F-35 fighter jets.

However, Türkiye has always rejected this accusation. Ankara claims that there is no problem in operating S-400 and F-35 together. The country has also proposed to form a joint commission to verify the matter. According to Turkey, their exclusion from the F-35 program was illegal and the fighter would strengthen the country's military capabilities as well as NATO's.
