Call for government to fall in India

The time has come for the current government to be removed from India, said the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. He made this comment after the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday (July 25) due to the widespread student movement across the country over the leak of government exam question papers and allegations of irregularities.

Rahul Gandhi met a group of protesting students at his 10 Janpath residence in New Delhi on Saturday morning. Then, in a post on social media, he congratulated all the students of the country who took to the streets to protect democracy, the constitution and their future. He said that Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation is a huge step towards restructuring our education system.

Despite the resignation of the Education Minister, Rahul Gandhi said that their two other demands have not yet been met. First, an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi respecting the future of India and students and second, strict legal action against those involved in violence against students. Addressing other deprived and oppressed sections of society—such as farmers, workers and the poor—he said that standing firm for one's dignity through constitutional means is true courage. The time has come to overthrow this government and he urged people not to fear anyone.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation on social media on Saturday in the face of intense student protests that have been going on for weeks. He said that he has submitted his resignation to ensure that the future of the students is given top priority and that no anti-national force takes advantage of the situation prevailing at Jantar Mantar and across the country. Earlier, spokespersons of Abhijit Deepak-led 'Kokroch Janata Party' (CJP) met Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. The resignation came just a day after that.

After the Education Minister's resignation, CJP founder Abhijit Deepak thanked the Chief Justice from the stage of Jantar Mantar. He said that the movement was triggered by a remark made by Chief Justice Surya Kant about the youth during a Supreme Court hearing on May 15. Although the Chief Justice later clarified that his remark was not aimed at unemployed youth in general, but at fake law degree holders and was misrepresented in the media, the remark went viral across the country and gave rise to this massive student movement.
