Donald Trump has lashed out at French President Emmanuel Macron for refusing to join the proposed peace council in Gaza, Palestine. The US president has also threatened to impose a 200 percent tariff on the country’s wine and champagne, attacking the French president in strong language.

In response to a journalist’s question in Miami, USA on Tuesday (January 20), Trump said that Macron’s international influence is almost at an end and he will leave power very soon.

Trump warned of ‘impeachment’, saying, “Nobody wants him (Macro) because he is leaving office very soon. If they behave hostilely, then I will impose a 200 percent tariff on his country’s wine and champagne.” The US president then said that if the tariff is imposed, then he himself will join the board (of peace). Even if he does not join, there is no problem.

According to French law, President Macron cannot run for a third term. His five-year term ends in May 2027. However, what Trump actually meant by "removed from power" was not explained in detail.

The UN Security Council-authorized Board of Peace was formed in November last year. Its purpose is to monitor the Israel-Hamas ceasefire. Various world leaders have been invited to join this board. Among them are Russian President Vladimir Putin, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. There are countries like India, Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt.

Meanwhile, Europe is growing apart from the United States on the Greenland issue. Last Friday, Trump said that whether European leaders are present or not, the United States will take control of Greenland. Because it is necessary for "global security."

He said that until control of Greenland is obtained, a maximum tariff of 25 percent will be imposed on eight European countries, including the United Kingdom. However, the matter was not taken well by European countries.

In response to Trump's tough threats, European countries are considering counter-tariffs and broader economic retaliation against the United States. However, Macron did not respond to Trump's ouster.
