US President Donald Trump posted an illustrated photo on his social media account. The photo shows him planting the American flag in Greenland. The photo is flanked by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance.
There is a placard in front of the photo. It reads - 'Greenland: US Territory, Established. 2026'. Along with this, the US Republican president posted another photo. This photo is an edited version of a photo taken in August 2025. At that time, European leaders visited Washington for Trump's phone call with Vladimir Putin.
In the photo of Trump posted on Truth Social, the presentation board next to it has been changed in such a way that North America, Canada and Greenland are covered with a US flag. The original image depicts the front lines of the Ukraine conflict.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump posted a screenshot of a message sent by French President Emmanuel Macron and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on social media. According to Reuters, a source close to Macron confirmed the authenticity of the message.
In the message, President Macron said, "I don't understand what you are doing in Greenland" and requested a meeting of the G-7 countries after the Davos World Economic Forum.
Macron also said that Russia would be invited to join the proposed G-7 meeting. Russia was expelled from the G-8 in 2014 in response to the annexation of Crimea.
Trump also shared another screenshot showing a message from NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. He posted it after the screenshot of Emmanuel Macron's message was published.
In this message, Mark Rutte's name appears in place of the sender. There, Rutte thanked Trump for his work in Syria and said, "I am committed to finding a way forward in Greenland."
