US President Donald Trump has said that he no longer thinks only about peace after not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Now, the interests of the United States take precedence over peace in his decision-making. He mentioned this in a letter written to the Prime Minister of Norway amid the ongoing dispute with the Europeans over the Greenland issue.
In a message sent to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Storting, Trump wrote, 'Your country did not give me the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping more than 8 wars. So I no longer feel obligated to think only about peace. Although peace will always prevail. But now I can think about what is good and right for the United States.'
Trump was in the running for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025. He also received the public support of several world leaders. However, in the end, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the prize to Trump's ally, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. Trump was angered by this.
Last week, Machado handed over her medal to Trump in a meeting at the White House. However, after such a 'rare' incident, the Nobel Committee made it clear in a statement, 'This prize cannot be transferred, shared or withdrawn.'
Meanwhile, tensions are rising between the United States and its European allies over the Greenland issue. He has threatened to impose additional tariffs on several European countries for taking a stand against the United States on this issue. In response, the European Union is also considering taking countermeasures.
In a letter sent to the Prime Minister of Norway, Trump wrote on the Greenland issue, 'Why should they (Denmark) have the right to own it? The world is not safe unless we have complete control over Greenland.'
