US troops have begun arriving in Israel as part of a mission to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza, ABC News reported.
The report quoted US officials as saying that a team of about 200 members from various bases in the US and the Middle East will arrive in Israel this weekend.
Meanwhile, Admiral Brad Cooper, head of the US military headquarters (Centcom), arrived in Israel on Thursday.
Officials said that US troops will help establish a joint control center to implement the Gaza ceasefire. They will also be responsible for coordinating with the Israeli army (IDF) and integrating the activities of other domestic security forces.
However, officials confirmed that no US troops will enter the Gaza Strip.
The mission will also include military officials from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and possibly the United Arab Emirates. The team's center will be operated from Egypt.
