Cristiano Ronaldo is always in rhythm. He set a new record by scoring another goal in another match. Portugal won 3-2 against Hungary in the European qualifiers on Tuesday night (September 9). Ronaldo became the top scorer in the history of World Cup qualifiers by scoring the team's second goal in the match.

The referee awarded a penalty when Hungary's Loik Nigo was hit in the hand while taking a shot for a goal in the second half of the match. The Portuguese superstar scored without making a mistake from the spot kick. It was his 39th goal in World Cup qualifiers. Former Guatemala star Carlos Ruiz has the same number of goals. However, with more matches ahead, it is only a matter of time before Ronaldo takes the record for himself. Ronaldo, who turned 40 last February, has scored in five consecutive matches for the national team. In total, his number of goals in international football stands at 141 in 223 matches.

Portugal conceded a goal in the 21st minute, but they equalized in the 36th minute through Bernardo Silva. Then, Portugal took the lead in the second half through Ronaldo's goal. Hungary's Barnabas Varga equalized again in the 84th minute, but Joao Cancelo scored two minutes later to secure Portugal's victory. Portugal is at the top of Group F of the 2026 World Cup European qualifiers with a full 6 points from two matches, while Hungary is third out of four teams with 1 point from the same match.
