22 Runs in 1 Ball with 3 Sixes

One ball, yet three sixes! That’s exactly what happened on August 26 in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
St. Lucia Kings’ pacer Oshane Thomas conceded 22 runs from the third ball of the 15th over. In total, he gave away 33 runs in that over. Conceding 33 in an over can happen, but how did 22 runs come from just 1 ball?
At the Darren Sammy Stadium, facing Guyana Amazon Warriors, Thomas’s first two balls of the 15th over went for 4 runs. Batter Romario Shepherd first played a dot, then struck a four on the second delivery.
The third ball also looked like a dot—but no! Later it was declared a no-ball. On the free hit, Thomas bowled a wide. His next two deliveries were also no-balls. Shepherd made the most of those free hits—sending both over the ropes for six.
That meant the free hit was still on! Shepherd smashed another six off it. So in effect, Thomas conceded three sixes off one ball. To add more misery, on the final ball of that 10-ball over, Pakistan’s Iftikhar Ahmed hit another six.
Later, in the 17th over, St. Lucia’s other pacer, Keon Gaston, leaked 27 runs. It took him 12 deliveries to complete the over. Shepherd again dominated, hitting two fours and two sixes. He remained unbeaten on 73 runs from 34 balls.
Early Wednesday morning Bangladesh time, St. Lucia Kings faced Guyana Amazon Warriors at Gros Islet in St. Lucia.
Winning the toss, Guyana batted first and posted 202 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Shepherd top-scored with an unbeaten 73 off 34 balls, striking 5 fours and 7 sixes from the No. 7 position.
In reply, St. Lucia Kings chased down the target with 4 wickets in hand. For the Kings, Emic Augustin played a match-winning knock of 72 runs off 35 balls, laced with 6 fours and 4 sixes.
