A special moment unfolded at the White House in Washington. FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with US President Donald Trump, where the official date of the World Cup draw was announced. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico—the first time in football history that three nations will co-host the tournament.

During the meeting at the Oval Office, Infantino presented Trump with the original 2026 World Cup trophy. While handing it over, the FIFA chief joked: “This is only for winners. You’re a winner, so you can touch it. It’s heavy. The last person to lift it was Lionel Messi, the 2022 champion.”

Trump, too, didn’t miss the chance to joke. Holding the trophy, he said: “Can I keep it? I don’t think I’ll give it back.” Pointing to a spot in his office, he added: “I could just display it right there!”

Infantino then handed Trump the very first ticket for the 2026 World Cup. It read: “Row 1, Seat 1.” Even more symbolic was the number printed on it: 45/47—a nod to Trump’s status as both the 45th and 47th President of the United States.

The upcoming World Cup will be the biggest in history, featuring 48 teams across 16 cities, running from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The draw will take place at Washington’s Kennedy Center on December 5.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary Kristi Noem joined Trump at the White House event. Trump wore his signature red cap, which read: “Trump was right about everything.”

The World Cup fever has already begun—and the White House episode only turned up the heat a little more.
