A few days ago, Argentine star Lionel Messi's dream of becoming a world champion was shattered by losing to Spain in the World Cup final. After that disappointment, this football superstar returned to the Inter Miami team. However, this time, a bigger grief has come to his life. Messi's father Jorge Messi has died at the age of 68.

Messi expressed his feelings in a long emotional message on social media after his father's death. Posting a picture with his father, he wrote, 'Dad, I still can't believe you're gone. I still can't understand the reality. In fact, I don't want to accept it. I won't see you again, we'll never talk again, it's very difficult for me to imagine. I know you were in pain and that may have been good for you, but you left too soon. We had so much more to enjoy together.'

Messi wrote, saying that he went to play in the World Cup held in North America at his father's request, 'How many times you begged me to play the last World Cup! And just a few days before the tournament started, your health deteriorated the most. Your mother told me that you would recover and be well enough to come to watch the games. I told you that we would reach the final so that you could come.’

The Argentina captain also recalled waiting for his father’s message after each match during the World Cup. He wrote, ‘After each match, I would wait for your message and miss you so much. That’s when I realized how difficult the situation was. Despite that, I only thought of going as far as possible, so that I could give you some time and you could come and watch at least one match. We reached the final, but you couldn’t come. I wanted to win the cup so that I could take it to you and show you a new trophy. But I couldn’t.’

Messi also spoke about the time he met his father after the World Cup. ‘When I came back, you thought we had lost the final on penalties. We couldn’t say a word about what had happened. You couldn't enjoy anything. We didn't win the championship, but you didn't know how much we enjoyed each match. You were proven right again—it was the right decision for me to go there and play.'

Messi also expressed his uncertainty about his future after losing his father. He wrote, 'I don't know what I would do without you, I don't know how to move forward. I only knew how to play football, and now I have big doubts about how much longer I can continue playing. You were by my side from the beginning, there was only a little left until the very last moment. Why didn't you just be patient for a while, dad? Then we could have done the end together!'

Messi considered his father not only as a guardian, but also as his closest friend and representative. Recalling that relationship, he said, 'You were my father, best friend and representative at the same time. You were there for me in every moment, just the way you needed to be—you never made a mistake. Despite a little arrogance or quarrel, at the end of the day you will always be proven right. In the end, it would happen exactly as you said.'

Messi wrote, saying that the memory of his father will remain with him and his family for a lifetime, 'I will miss you very much, father, but you will always be with us. The way you raised me, I am also teaching my children the same way. Rest in peace, father, and keep us safe from above, as you used to be here. Thank you for everything.'

Finally, expressing his love for his father, Messi wrote, 'I love you very much, father.'
