Government approves purchase of 8 cargoes of LNG

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given in-principle approval to four proposals, including the import of eight cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) under the Direct Purchase Method (DPM) to meet the country's urgent gas demand.

These proposals were approved in the 25th meeting of the committee on Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by the Minister of Finance and Planning. Detailed information about the approved proposals was given after the meeting.

It is learned that in-principle approval has been given to import a total of eight cargoes of LNG in view of three separate proposals of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources to meet the urgent gas demand created in the country due to the unstable international geopolitical situation including the Middle East.

Of these, two cargoes from Hong Kong Zhenyu Shipping, two cargoes from Malaysia's Petronas, two cargoes from China's China Runge Holdings and two cargoes from Darab Inc. of the United States will be imported under the direct purchase method.

In addition, in-principle approval has been given to carry out 'Dredging of Jinai, Sutia and Kachamatia rivers and related works' through direct procurement method under the 'River Flow Restoration, Waterway Development and Flood Management' project implemented by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) under the Ministry of Shipping.

On the other hand, the committee has also approved in-principle a proposal to purchase Android tabs through direct procurement method for implementing family cards under the 'SSpirit' project implemented by the Department of Social Services under the Ministry of Social Welfare.

Of the four proposals approved in the meeting, three were related to LNG import and the other two were related to purchasing tabs for river dredging and implementing family cards.
