Hollywood actress Naomi Watts is adding another prestigious recognition to her acting career. The two-time Oscar nominee will be honored with the 'Golden Eye' award this year by the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF). She is being given the award for her performance in Ben Shirinian's new film 'The Housewife'. Watts will be present at the ceremony in Zurich on September 26 to receive the award in person. On the same day, she will also participate in a special ZFF masterclass.
The story of the film 'The Housewife', based on a true story, is set in the 1960s. Tye Sheridan plays the role of a young New York journalist. She suspects a man living in secret in Queens of being a Nazi officer. The character is played by Luke Evans.
Naomi Watts will be seen playing the role of the suspect's mysterious and aristocratic wife. When the journalist befriends the woman while investigating, her investigation takes a more complicated and uncomfortable turn. Watts' performance in this ambiguous and mysterious character has caught the attention of the Zurich Film Festival authorities.
During the award announcement, ZFF CEO Christian Jungen said, "Since coming to the fore with David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, Naomi Watts has been one of the most exciting actresses of our time. The specialty of her performance is that she can wonderfully portray the tension between the external nobility of the character and the inner darkness, and the revealed truth and the hidden mystery.
According to Jungen, Watts has once again highlighted that duality with extraordinary skill in The Housewife. As a result, it has become one of the strongest performances of the actress's career.
Watts has previously been nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her performances in 21 Grams and The Impossible. She has also had significant success on television; She received an Emmy nomination for her performance in the second season of Feud.
After its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, ‘The Housewife’ will be screened in Zurich. This year’s Zurich Film Festival runs from September 24 to October 4. Previous Golden Eye winners include Kristen Stewart, Jude Law, Benedict Cumberbatch and Dakota Johnson.
