Jenna Ortega is one of the most well-known faces of the young generation of Hollywood. The actress, who gained worldwide popularity by acting in the series 'Wednesday', had a difficult start to her acting career. As a child, she would sometimes forget about her own needs due to the joy of getting an acting opportunity and being overly focused on her work. She even spent days on the shooting set without drinking water.
In a recent interview with Esquire, Jenna shared her experience of the early days of her career. When asked if she made any 'rookie mistakes' while working on her first shooting set, she said that she does not remember any mistakes of hers as a child. On the contrary, she was so grateful and excited to get the opportunity to act that she would focus completely on her work.
Jenna said, 'I was so grateful and happy to be there that I would completely immerse myself in my work. I didn't even ask for a sip of water.'
She was also extra conscious about not causing any inconvenience to others. So even asking for food or water felt like bothering others. 'I would spend the whole day without eating or drinking. Because I didn't want to interfere with anyone's work in any way,' she said. Later, however, she realized that not taking care of herself was a big mistake at that time.
Jenna decided to become a professional actress at the age of just 7. When she told her parents about it, they laughed at first. But she was steadfast in her decision. Jenna says, 'I'm very stubborn. So I never stopped, I never even questioned my decision.'
Jenna cites Dakota Fanning as one of her inspirations in acting as a child. She said that she got the idea of 'what acting is' from her as a child. However, Jenna once thought about quitting acting. Before entering high school, it seemed that her acting career would end here. Later, when she got the opportunity to work in the series ‘U’, that decision changed. She enjoyed the work so much on the set that the thought of quitting acting never crossed her mind.
That indomitable focus from childhood has made Jenna Ortega who she is today. She will next be seen in Taika Waititi’s ‘Clara and the Sun’. The film is being made based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s famous novel.
