Eiffel Tower chief resigns amid criticism, what’s behind it

Patrick Branco Ruivy, the CEO of the company that runs the Eiffel Tower, is resigning after being criticized for replacing female employees with male employees during a visit to a Hindu religious organization. Patrick, who has been in charge since 2018, will step down at the end of this year. 

Earlier this month, a delegation from a Hindu religious group called BAPS visited the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Due to their religious beliefs, the delegation requested that they be restricted from interacting with women. SETE, the company that runs the Eiffel Tower, said it was wrong to accept this condition. An investigation found that due to administrative errors, female employees were humiliatingly removed from their jobs and assigned to male employees. 

The incident led to a strike by workers, forcing the tower to close, and sparking a political outcry and investigation. BAPS later expressed regret over the incident. However, critics have said that keeping women away in the name of religious practices in the modern era is discriminatory and unacceptable.
