US has no interest in taking control of the Strait of Hormuz: Trump

US President Donald Trump has made it clear that the US has no interest in taking sovereignty or control of the international waterway, the Strait of Hormuz. However, in addition to maintaining military and diplomatic influence in the region, Washington will take a tough stance on ensuring that Iran cannot develop nuclear weapons under any circumstances.

US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran is primarily interested in reaching a permanent agreement with the US. However, in the current political situation, they are not yet ready for formal negotiations. Trump expressed hope that Tehran will soon be forced or ready to sit at the diplomatic table.

On the other hand, the US Central Command or CENTCOM has directly rejected a recent demand by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) centered on the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC had demanded that international ships passing through the strait should follow their designated route. But CENTCOM has clarified that international commercial ships are normally passing through the Strait of Hormuz under the protection of the US military, and nearly 900 ships have safely used the waterway since the beginning of May.

However, Donald Trump has warned of dire consequences if this peaceful environment in the Strait of Hormuz is disturbed. He warned that if Iran attacks any international ship in Hormuz again, Washington will respond by directly attacking important infrastructure inside Iran.

After this warning from the US president, there has also been a strong reaction from Tehran. Major General Majid Mousavi, Commander of the IRGC's Aerospace Force, made it clear that if any bridge or power plant in Iran is attacked, US military bases in the Middle East and US allies will have to pay the price. Tehran has the power to completely shut down the power supply system there.

The same tone was also echoed in the voice of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. On social media, he mentioned that their defense policy to maintain the country's security is very clear - 'an eye for an eye'.

He warned the US administration that Tehran would respond harshly and toothlessly if any attack was carried out on Iranian infrastructure or any state facility.
