Qatar was warned about the Israeli attack in advance, said Caroline Levitt, the press secretary for the US President's official residence, the White House.
At a press briefing at the White House on Tuesday, Levitt said, "Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had informed us about the attack in advance. Netanyahu said he wanted peace and he wanted it soon. So we had information about the attack in advance. After speaking with Netanyahu, President Trump immediately warned Doha about the impending attack through Steve Witkoff."
"Later, Doha was also warned from the US military base in Qatar. President Trump also called Qatari leaders after the attack. He promised them that such attacks would not occur on Qatari soil in the future."
Incidentally, Trump recently sent a draft proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza to Hamas, the group that controls the Gaza Strip.
On Tuesday (September 9), Hamas's top leader and spokesman Khalil al-Haya and other members of the high command were discussing the proposal in a building in a residential area of Dohar, the capital of Qatar.
During their discussions, the Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike targeting the building. A statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that the attack was carried out to kill the current top leader and spokesman of Hamas, Khalil al-Haya, and the leader of the Hamas West Bank branch, Zaher Jabarin.
That goal was not achieved, but at least six people were reported to have been killed in yesterday's attack. Five of them are affiliated with Hamas. In a statement, Hamas said that none of the group's high-ranking leaders were among the dead.
