A couple bypassed the security of the famous Empire State Building in New York, USA, and climbed to the top of the building to hang a banner. They also proposed at a height of about 1,450 feet. However, after this adventure, they were finally arrested by the police.

The incident took place at one of the most famous buildings in New York at noon on Wednesday (July 1) local time. Security officials are now investigating how the two were able to enter an area prohibited to the public.

The two arrested are Angela Nikolau (33) and Ivan Kuznetsov (32). Both of them are residents of New Jersey and have long been known for climbing risky structures to take pictures and videos.

Police bodycam video shows that upon reaching the top of the building, an officer tells them, "Stay where you are. You can't be here." The woman replied, "I'm fine."

Two members of the New York Police Department's emergency services unit climbed four ladders to the top of the building to help them down. The two were later arrested without any resistance.

Police said they were charged with multiple counts of trespassing, reckless endangerment, damage to government property, and trespassing.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe said, "This is a very dangerous incident. It is important to take legal action against them so that others are not encouraged to do this."

After the incident, Angela Nicolaou posted photos and videos from the top of the building on her Instagram account. There, she also saw a picture of her engagement ring with the city in the background.

Nicolaou and Kuznetsov are well-known for their adventures on social media. A documentary about them, ‘Skywalkers: A Love Story’, was released on Netflix in 2024. It describes them as ‘adventurous influencers’ who risk their lives to climb the world’s tallest buildings for love and thrills.

However, Netflix declined to comment on the incident.
