MUMBAI — Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja are back in the spotlight after reports revealed that Sunita filed for divorce in late 2024, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion.
According to court records, Sunita submitted her petition on December 5, 2024, at the Bandra Family Court, under Section 13 (1) (i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. These provisions list adultery, cruelty, and desertion as legal grounds for divorce.
While Sunita has regularly attended hearings and participated in court-mandated counseling sessions, records show Govinda did not appear until a show-cause notice was issued in May 2025.
Govinda’s Team Denies Divorce Claims
Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindra, dismissed the matter, claiming, “There is no case. Everything is being settled. People are just digging up old issues. This Ganesh Chaturthi, you will see everyone together.”
His manager, Shashi, echoed this, saying the couple was “working on their differences.” He added, “Every couple sees ups and downs. Govinda can never be violent or cruel. Old stories are being resurfaced to tarnish his image.”
Sunita Speaks in Emotional Vlog
Amid the legal proceedings, Sunita opened up on her YouTube vlog during a visit to Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Temple. Fighting back tears, she recalled praying for her marriage’s longevity, adding, “Whoever tries to break my home, Maa Kaali is there. It is not right to cause pain to a good man and a good woman.”
Her words quickly sparked online discussion, especially after she removed Govinda’s surname from her social media accounts—fueling speculation about a permanent split.
Friends and Industry Voices React
A close friend of the couple acknowledged witnessing “violent fights” between the two but claimed they always reconciled.
Producer Pahlaj Nihalani, a longtime associate of Govinda, came to the actor’s defense, saying:
“Nobody can get between Sunita and Govinda’s eternal love. They may fight, but they will never separate permanently.”
