Street closures, heavy traffic expected for Nassau County due to Trump visit

Political analysts say President Trump will likely use the visit to rally support for Blakeman and other Long Island republicans.

President Donald Trump returns to Long Island this Friday to visit Nassau County, and security preparations are underway.

The president will appear at the newly established Nassau County Police Department training center in Garden City and another one in Mineola. Tickets are available for the event here.

He'll be with Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who is running on the Republican side for governor of New York against Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul.

According to the latest Siena poll, Blakeman trails Hochul by 10 points.
Political analysts say President Trump will likely use the visit to rally support for Blakeman and other Long Island republicans.

On Thursday, Blakeman was accompanied by Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder, as they shared safety protocols ahead of the president's visit. The Garden City, Mineola and Uniondale areas will have street closures.

“We will not detail those street closures for security reasons because that will telegraph the direction that the president is coming in, so we will not do that,” Blakeman said. “If you don't have to go in that area from 1 p.m. to 5 

“We are working very closely with the Secret Service to make sure that this is a safe event for everybody, not just the president, but all those who are attending and everybody who lives or works in the surrounding areas,” Blakeman continued.

“We will be moving a lot of pieces around, covering the entire Garden City area for the president's arrival,” Ryder said. “So just be prepared for that. If you can avoid the area, avoid the area.
