Trump’s image now on US coins

The new one-dollar coin features the portrait of President Donald Trump. The U.S. Mint unveiled the coin on Wednesday (September 2) to mark the country's 250th anniversary.

The coin features a portrait of Trump on one side, along with the words 'LIBERTY', 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and '1776–2026'. The other side features the presidential seal and the 250th anniversary symbol.

Although the coin is legally valid currency, it is being sold primarily for souvenirs and collectibles rather than being widely released for general circulation.

A roll of 25 coins is priced at $61 and a bag of 100 coins is priced at $154.50. The coin was sold out on the Mint's website within hours of going on sale.

The United States generally prohibits the use of portraits of living people on currency. However, a special provision in a 2020 law authorized the minting of these coins to commemorate the 250th anniversary in 2026.

The coin is golden in color, but contains no gold. It is 88.5 percent copper and the rest is zinc, manganese and nickel. Trump has become the first living president to appear on U.S. currency in nearly a century.

In May, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced that the US administration was planning to issue a new $250 note featuring Trump. In March of this year, the Treasury Department announced that Trump's signature would be added to US paper currency - a first for a sitting US president.
