Independent MP Barrister Rumeen Farhana has commented that the long-standing one-party rule in the country still exists.

He made this remark while delivering a guest speech at the inaugural function of an organization called the International Jurists Forum for Human Rights at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Tuesday (May 19) afternoon.

Jatiya Party Secretary General Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary presided over the function.

Rumeen Farhana said, "We have seen one-party rule for a long time, and its continuation is still going on. Then, the parliament was arranged in a single way, leaving the BNP-Jamaat out of the playing field, now the parliament is being run in a different way, leaving the Awami League and the left parties out. This is all the same."

I have seen a one-party parliament before, and I still see a one-party parliament, and I said this the day I first entered the parliament.

Expressing his anger, Rumin said that no other member in the parliament except him had raised a question on Bangladesh's very important trade agreement with America. Although the support of at least five members of parliament is required to give notice to the speaker to discuss an issue of national importance, he did not get even those five members in the entire parliament. As a result, he was forced to speak on the issue standing on a point of order.

Similarly, when he raised a question about the measles outbreak, the health minister discouraged him from speaking, arguing that people would be scared if he spoke too much about the issue.

He also said that car and motorbike drivers have been waiting in long lines all night for oil. However, as soon as the government announced a price increase, sufficient oil started to be available in the market. Asking where this oil was hidden all this time, he said that a kind of deception is being done to the people.

Stating that the government will not be able to hide its activities by hiding information, Rumin Farhana said, "People in this era are very aware and smart.

Now, with everyone having a cellphone in their hands, it is possible to know what is happening around the world at any moment. Therefore, there is no chance of getting away with hiding information and it is not possible to run the state in this way."
