WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, a senior White House official confirmed Friday.

Traditionally, former vice presidents receive six months of protection after leaving office. However, Harris’ security detail had been extended to one year — until January 2026 — by then-President Joe Biden before leaving office earlier this year.

According to a letter dated Thursday, Harris’ protection will officially end on September 1.

Harris, who lost the 2024 presidential election to Trump, is set to begin a 15-city book tour in September for her upcoming memoir 107 Days, which reflects on her brief candidacy following Biden’s withdrawal from the race. Harris served as the Democratic nominee for 107 days before her defeat.

Responding to the decision, Kirsten Allen, a senior adviser to Harris, said:

“The vice president is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety.”

While Harris announced last month that she will not run for governor of California in 2026, she has not ruled out a 2028 presidential bid.

Trump has previously withdrawn federal security protection from others, including critics. Earlier this year, he ended protection for Biden’s children Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, as well as for former national security adviser John Bolton.
