Sabalenka, Gauff Reunite in Viral TikTok Dance Ahead of Wimbledon

Just weeks after a tense French Open final, Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka proved there’s no bad blood between them—by dancing together in a light-hearted TikTok video filmed on Centre Court at Wimbledon.
On June 27, the duo posted clips of themselves dancing to the 1990 hit "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by C+C Music Factory, quickly going viral across social media. Sabalenka captioned her Instagram post, “TikTok dances always had a way of bringing people together.” Gauff, a regular TikTok user, shared another video where they joked, “OK, guys, we’re back. Did you miss us? ’Cause we missed you.” She added, “The olive branch was extended and accepted! We’re good, so you guys should be too.”
Tensions After Paris
The show of unity comes after Sabalenka’s controversial remarks following her loss to Gauff in the French Open final, where she downplayed the American’s performance, saying her defeat was due more to her own errors than Gauff’s play. The backlash, particularly in the U.S., was swift, and Sabalenka later admitted her comments were “unprofessional.”
“I was just upset with myself,” Sabalenka said. “Emotions got the better of me. I didn’t mean to offend Coco.”
Gauff initially considered responding publicly but chose not to escalate. “I’m not someone who fuels hate,” she said. “Some of what was said went too far. I didn’t want to contribute to that.”
Although she was surprised it took Sabalenka a while to reach out, Gauff said once the apology came, she moved on. “I preach love, I preach light. I just want us to live in Kumbaya, Hakuna Matata, and be happy.”
Players React
Other players have welcomed the reconciliation. American men’s star Frances Tiafoe said, “I’m glad they moved past it. You need strong relationships between top players.” Then he joked, “But it’d also be kind of fun if they kept a little rivalry going.”
Looking Ahead to Wimbledon
Gauff begins her Wimbledon campaign on Tuesday against Dayana Yastremska, while Sabalenka faces Carson Branstine on Monday. Despite their patched-up friendship, the competitive spirit remains strong.
Asked whether she’d like to face Gauff again in the Wimbledon final, Sabalenka laughed, “Honestly, maybe I don’t want to see Coco there… but if she’s in the final, then yes—I’d love the chance for revenge!”
Sabalenka also spoke about a practice session she had with tennis legend Novak Djokovic, who later joined her press conference. “Novak is amazing,” she said. “He gave me honest advice about things I’ve been struggling with. I’m grateful.”
