Türkiye ended their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a dramatic 3-2 victory over the United States, but the win was not enough to secure a place in the Round of 32.
In the final Group D match at Los Angeles Stadium, Vincenzo Montella's side scored a stoppage-time winner to claim all three points, yet bowed out of the tournament after failing to progress from the group stage.
The United States made the brighter start and took the lead just three minutes into the match when Trusty headed home from a corner.
Türkiye responded swiftly. Just seven minutes later, Arda Güler finished off a well-worked team move to restore parity before Yılmaz completed an impressive passing move in the 31st minute to give his side a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
The hosts equalised early in the second half when Berhalter unleashed a superb strike from around 20 yards in the 49th minute, making it 2-2.
As the match appeared destined to end in a draw, substitute Ayhan emerged as the hero deep into stoppage time. In the eighth minute of added time, he tapped into an empty net after a pass from Uzun, sealing a thrilling 3-2 victory for Türkiye.
After failing to score in their opening two matches, Türkiye found the net three times in their final outing. The result also handed the United States their first defeat of the tournament.
Despite the dramatic victory, Türkiye finished their World Cup campaign with three points and were eliminated at the group stage. The United States, having already secured qualification for the knockout stage, will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on July 1.
