The father of model and actress Humaira Asghar has refused to receive her body following the completion of a postmortem, police officials said on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old actress was found dead in her flat located in Defence Phase 6 on Monday. According to police, the body had decomposed significantly, suggesting that she had died nearly a month earlier. Her remains have since been kept in a cold storage facility.
Speaking to media, SSP South Mehroz Ali said that Humaira Asghar had been residing alone in the apartment since 2018 and had stopped paying rent in early 2024. “She had been living in complete isolation,” he said.
Police contacted the family shortly after the recovery of the body. However, officers claim the father declined to accept his daughter’s remains, stating that he had severed all ties with her.
Despite efforts to persuade him to travel to Karachi, no further contact has been made by the family since.
A court bailiff has sealed the apartment where her body was discovered. Investigators have retrieved data from her mobile phone, and chemical analysis reports are awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
“Initial findings suggest a natural death, but we are exploring all angles,” SSP Mehroz Ali added.
The postmortem examination has been completed, but authorities are awaiting results of the chemical analysis before making any conclusive statements.
Humaira Asghar, who rose to prominence through her modelling work and her appearance on the reality TV show Tamasha, had largely withdrawn from the public eye in recent years. Her tragic death and the subsequent response from her family have drawn renewed attention to the often unseen personal struggles faced by those in the entertainment industry.
