Police investigating the sudden death of television actor Shefali Jariwala have so far recorded 14 statements and collected multiple CCTV footage samples as they await the preliminary postmortem report, expected to be released on Monday.
Shefali, known for her breakout appearance in the 2002 music video Kaanta Laga, was pronounced dead late Thursday night after being rushed to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital by her husband, actor Parag Tyagi. Doctors declared her dead on arrival, and while early reports cited cardiac arrest, authorities have not ruled out other causes.
According to sources, Shefali's postmortem was conducted at Cooper Hospital and video-recorded in full. A panel of five doctors is compiling the report, which police believe will help determine the exact cause of death. Investigators initially looked into food poisoning as a possible cause, but are now exploring whether any form of poisoning may have occurred.
Police are reviewing her medical history over the past eight years, including the doctors she consulted, medications prescribed, and whether she took any drugs without medical supervision. A pharmacist from the family’s regular medical store has also been questioned.
So far, police have seized seven CCTV clips and recorded statements from family members, domestic staff, and individuals who had regular contact with the late actor.
Preliminary findings from medical sources suggest Shefali may have suffered from low blood pressure, a cardiac event, and severe gastric complications prior to her death.
Shefali was cremated on Saturday at the Oshiwara Crematorium. Her husband Parag Tyagi, seen visibly emotional, performed the final rites. A number of celebrities, including Aarti Singh, Rashami Desai, Shehnaaz Gill, and singer Sunidhi Chauhan, visited the residence earlier in the day to offer condolences.
Shefali Jariwala gained popularity with Kaanta Laga, and later appeared in the film Mujhse Shaadi Karogi alongside Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. She was also a contestant on reality shows Nach Baliye and Bigg Boss 13.
The Amboli Police Station is leading the investigation and has deployed two teams to handle the case. Officials have assured that all angles are being thoroughly explored, and further updates will follow pending the postmortem findings.
