Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in brokering a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, marking yet another high-profile endorsement amid ongoing global tensions.

The nomination was submitted by Republican Congressman Buddy Carter, who credited Trump with playing an “extraordinary and historic role” in halting armed conflict between the two nations and curbing what he described as “the world’s most destructive nuclear ambitions.”

What the Nomination Letter Said
In his letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, Carter wrote: “President Trump’s intervention was instrumental in achieving a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran — something many thought impossible.”

He also emphasized Trump’s bold and decisive actions to deter Iran’s nuclear aspirations, asserting: “His efforts ensured Iran would not be able to obtain a nuclear weapon.”

A Leader in Crisis
According to Carter, Trump's leadership during the recent conflict reflected the values the Nobel Peace Prize is meant to honor:

“In a region long marred by hostility and political instability, such progress demands courage and clarity — both of which Trump displayed.”

Trump himself announced the ceasefire on Monday, June 23, bringing an official end to what has been dubbed the “12-day war.” The ceasefire took effect the following night, although reports indicate that both sides engaged in retaliatory strikes even after the announcement.

War and Diplomacy
The conflict escalated on June 13, when Israel launched airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The situation quickly deteriorated into open warfare, with missile exchanges and heavy casualties on both sides. Trump, now back in office, reportedly pressured Tehran into negotiations and imposed strict deadlines for talks — though Iran initially refused and responded with a barrage of missiles on Israeli targets. Eventually, a fragile truce was reached.

Support Beyond the U.S.
Earlier this year, the Pakistani government also formally endorsed Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his diplomatic intervention in easing recent tensions between India and Pakistan.

Trump’s nomination adds a new layer to his controversial political legacy, positioning him not only as a divisive figure domestically but also as a key player in some of the world’s most volatile geopolitical arenas.
