Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country, has trained 20,000 troops to carry out health and construction-related work as part of a planned peacekeeping operation in war-torn Gaza, the country's defense ministry confirmed.
The Times of Israel reported that the United States has drawn up plans for a multinational stabilization force in Gaza. In addition to Indonesia, talks have been held with Azerbaijan, Egypt and Qatar for this purpose.
Last week, Reuters published a draft report prepared by Washington that would authorize Washington to take all necessary measures to disarm Gaza, secure the border, protect and provide relief to civilians and support a newly trained Palestinian police force.
Indonesia said that no decision had yet been made on when the troops would be deployed and what their mandate would be. In this regard, the country's Defense Minister Sazafri Sazamsoeddin told reporters, "We have prepared a maximum of 20,000 troops. We are waiting for a decision on establishing peace in Gaza."
