Russia has submitted its own proposal to the UN Security Council in response to the US-proposed draft resolution on the Gaza situation. The Russian proposal does not mention the controversial 'Board of Peace' planned by the US. The Russian draft resolution calls for a 'balanced and acceptable' way to end hostilities.
It requests the UN Secretary-General to explore possible ways to form an International Stability Force (ISF) in Gaza. There is no mention of Trump's proposed 'Board of Peace', which the US is talking about forming as an interim administration in Gaza. The US draft resolution seeks approval for the formation of an interim administration and an International Stability Force (ISF) in Gaza with a two-year mandate. TRT World reports.
A third draft, seen by AFP, welcomes the creation of a "Board of Peace" - which Trump will lead. The ISF would work with Israel, Egypt and a newly formed Palestinian police force to ensure border security, the demilitarization of Gaza and the protection of civilians.
The US draft mentions for the first time the possibility of a future Palestinian state. Once the Palestinian Authority completes the necessary reforms and the reconstruction of Gaza begins, "a real path to Palestinian self-determination and statehood could be created."
The US mission has warned that a split now would cause "serious and avoidable harm" to the people of Gaza. "This is a historic moment on the path to lasting peace in the Middle East," it said.
Israel and Hamas have already agreed to the first phase of Trump's 20-point plan - a two-year "genocide and prisoner exchange agreement" - which is included in the US draft. Trump has said the United States will not send its own troops, but talks are underway with Indonesia, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and Azerbaijan to form an international force of about 20,000 troops.
