Team Preview - Spain
Spain is the hot favorite for this World Cup. This team, which became the European champion in 2024, has come to the World Cup with the aim of becoming the world champion.
Under coach Luis de la Fuente, the team is very dynamic and aggressive. They have abandoned the old tiki-taka and now play more dynamic football.
Rodri is back in the team after a long time and this is the biggest news for Spain. This team has some players who are the main contenders for Golden Boot and Golden Ball.
attack
A key strength in Spain's attack is their ability to play in wide areas. 18-year-old Lamin Yamal plays from the right. He is already known as one of the best wingers in the world. He is the lifeblood of this team. Every team in Group H will plan to stop him.
Mikel Oyerzabal is in excellent form as a striker. He has 11 goals in his last 10 Spain matches. Nico Williams plays from the left and helps the team attack with pace and direct runs. But he has pubalgia issues, so that spot is still uncertain. Dani Olmo is slightly ahead as the third forward due to experience.
Midfield
Spain's midfield is one of the best in the world. The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri plays in a defensive midfield role. He distributes the ball from the back and breaks up opposition attacks.
Pedri controlled the game from midfield. Press resistance is its greatest quality.
Fabian Ruiz, who has had a knee problem since January, returned late in the season, which is a relief for the team.
defense
Spain plays along a high defensive line. Hyperpress wants to corner the opponent. Rodri covers space in front of the defence. Behind him, Pau Kuberci and Aymeric Laporte are leading as a centre-back pair. Full-backs also play an important role in attack.
While the team has Spanish league winner Joan Garcia and Premier League winner David Raya as their goalkeepers, Unai Simeone will be Spain's first-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup.
Possible XI
Unai Simon; Poro, Kubersi, Laporte, Cucurrea; Rodri, Pedri, Fabian Ruiz; Lamin Yamal, Mikel Ouierzabal, Dani Olmo.
the setpiece
Corners – Pedri, Alex Baena and Lamine Yamal
Direct – Neben Mikel Oyerzabal and Pedri
Penalties – Mikel Oyerzabal and Lamin Yamal
the challenge
Injury management is the team's biggest problem as Williams, Ruiz, Merino and Yamal all have injury histories. Rodri will have to be used carefully in the three group matches as he has just returned to the field after a long break.
Meanwhile, if both Yamal and Williams are on top, there may be danger in the transition behind.
Uruguay and Saudi Arabia can exploit that gap. The midfield is lacking in depth, so any new injuries could pose a major problem.
Sufficient changes should be made against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia to ensure that everyone in the team is fit for the long journey.
Team Preview - Uruguay
Uruguay has arrived at the 2026 World Cup under coach Marcelo Bielsa. Beat Brazil and Argentina in the qualifiers.
However, Bielsa's tactics are hot in Uruguay. Luis Suarez has publicly stated that the coach's tactics have brought the players to the brink of collapse.
Uruguay loves to play with high pressure. The team defeated Argentina with this strategy.
However, they have another identity, they are quite unpredictable as a team. Just as Brazil-Argentina has been defeated, there is also a precedent of losing to the United States this past year.
attack
Uruguay's attacking strengths are direct play, intense physicality and midfield power. Federico Valverde is at the center of it all. He runs across the field, wins duels and even scores goals at crucial moments.
Darwin Nunez as the lead striker puts defenders under pressure with pace and physicality. Núñez kept the defense busy and created space even if he didn't score himself. Georgian de Arrascaeta added creativity from the attacking midfield.
Rodrigo Aguirre and Maximiliano Araujo created a threat with pace and direct runs. Uruguay are dangerous in transition and at set pieces.
Midfield
Valverde is the lifeblood of Uruguay's midfield. He is the best player in this team. Rodrigo Bentancur helps control the midfield alongside him. Manuel Ugarte acts as a screener in front of the defense. Ugarte added strength to the midfield.
De Arrascaeta linked the midfield with the attack. This midfield can create pressure in large spaces together. Valverde's penalty against England proved that this team can produce results in difficult moments.
defense
The centre-back duo of Ronald Araujo and Jose Maria Jimenez is one of the most experienced duos in South America. The presence of Manuel Ugarte protects them up front. Fernando Muslera is the experienced first-choice goalkeeper. However
